Adenoid separation is surgery performed on the removal of the adenoid glands. The adenoid glands are found in the nasopharynx, behind the nose, and above the roof of the mouth. Air passes over these glands when you take a breath. The adenoids are frequently removed along with the tonsils (tonsillectomy). Adenoid removal is also known as adenoidectomy. The procedure is most frequently used on children. Your child will be given general anesthesia prior to surgery. This means your child will be asleep and unable to feel pain. A small tool is placed into your child's mouth during surgery to keep it open. The surgeon removes the adenoid glands with a spoon-shaped tool (curette).
